Echinacea purpurea for the human endocannabinoid system

Homeostasis is very important to me. Balancing the body to raise vitality helps us to feel whole. I want more than anything for all our lives to be filled with quality, because when we feel well we are happy and when we are happy we are able to give of ourselves without a loss of energy.

Originally growing on the North America’s prairies echinacea purpurea is a plant to love with bountiful uses. A favourite of mine for balancing the immune system.

The American indigenous Indians used these beautiful abundant flowering plants for energy. Recent research has revealed its use for pain management. Echinacea’s alkylamides act on the cannabinoid (CB) receptors which have modulating effects on the endocannabinoid system.

We don’t really mention are endocannabinoid system within our bodies, yet it exists. It is remarkable because it exerts homeostatic regulation and physiological balance. It’s an important component of our bodily systems.

Some homeostatic processes include regulation of stress, pain, digestion, respiratory and cardio function, neural development, synaptic plasticity, energy, inflammation, circadian rhythm, and regulates appetite.

This system is one of the most important functioning systems in the human body, and more research may reveal a better understanding of disease progression and aetiology.

To date, the root of the plant is the most therapeutic, but the flowers also hold some healing capacity.
